leave this to me
I just—HE’S LOOKING AT THOR
This is his “Thor, watch I’m gonna do something awesome for us. See how cool I am? I’m gonna make our mission succeed. I’m gonna start us off. Thor, look at me. Thor, pay attention. I am gonna be amazing, okay, big brother?” look.
And then he gets shut down.
By Thor.
Thor is a dick just like his dadNo he’s not. He’s unaware and a bit insensitive and yes at times he’s really unkind to Loki. Although that’s mostly because he doesn’t understand that Loki needs to be handled with some delicacy. Thor loves his brother, more than anyone else. He doesn’t realize it until Loki has sent the destroyer after him, but to be fair he doesn’t realize much of anything until then.
Odin is a different story altogether.
I agree with you about Thor. It’s not that he’s cruel, it’s just that he’s thoughtless and a little bit insensitive at times. (Before his little vacation to Earth, that is.)
MY FEELS. LET ME SHARE THEM WITH YOU.
THIS is why we need those deleted scenes. Let me just hit you with some gifs of scenes that, if not deleted, took place before this scene.
Thor cares for Loki immensely. They are incredibly close. In lore, NO ONE likes Loki. Why? Because Loki is a little shit. But Thor includes him. Thor is proud of his younger, mischievous brother. He wants him at his side… especially when going into battle. Just look at his face when Loki doesn’t immediately agree to go with him to Jotunheim! Thor LOVES Loki. Deeply… and if you’ve seen The Avengers and you don’t see that… you need your eyes checked.
Now, Thor isn’t always immediately sensitive to what’s going on around him, especially towards the beginning of the movie before his trip to Midgard. He is arrogant, rash, impatient, immature and war hungry. And yes, in this scene, Loki is proud. He’s excited to show off his skills in front of The Warriors Three, The Lady Sif and most importantly Thor. He doesn’t do much hand to hand combat. His skills are in tricks, evasion and ranged attacks. This is indeed a chance for him to shine.
And of course, in this scene, he wants/needs to smooth talk Heimdall into letting them pass. But let’s not forget WHY he wants/needs to be the one to do this. Remember that, as soon as Loki approaches Heimdall, Heimdall looks at Loki and snarls “You’re not dressed warmly enough.”. Heimdall has a pretty good idea of how the Frost Giants broke into Asgard, and he’s absolutely right. Heimdall’s (correct) assumption throws Loki off of his game… makes him nervous and he stumbles a bit. Thor, incorrectly, sees this as timidity and becomes impatient and pushes Loki aside. Thor still loves his brother and means no disrespect, but he’s ready to fight. To him, Laufey had just broken a promise to his father by sending his people to break into Asgard. They interrupted his ceremony… his big day… and caused him to argue with his father, who so aptly reminded Thor that he wasn’t king. Not yet.
Thor is pissed, and rightfully so. And he doesn’t handle the situation as delicately as he should with Loki, but he doesn’t deserve to be called a dick for it. Thor changes his ways, and by the time The Avengers rolls around… he knows EXACTLY how to deal with his brother. He loves his brother so much and so intensely that it HURTS. But… That’s another discussion for another day.
If you want to talk about who is and who isn’t a dick, I’ll share my Odin feels with you some day.
